Crabtree & Evelyn is inspired by John Evelyn, a 17th Century Englishman who was a visionary of his time. His great estate, Sayes Court, was planted with large expanses of elm trees, and Evelyn’s magnificent gardens were a wonder of the age. A keen traveller, Evelyn was one of the first naturalists and conservationists, and he traversed Europe collecting and recording details of the breathtaking natural environments he encountered. Evelyn’s personal motto “Explore everything. Keep the best.” has provided inspiration from our founding to this day.
Founded in 1972 by Cyrus Harvey, Crabtree & Evelyn has evolved from a small, family-run business – specializing in fine soaps from around the world – to an international company, well known and respected for its original fragrances, luxurious toiletries, gourmet foods - and gifts for those who enjoy a sophisticated lifestyle.
